Proposal:Licensing proposal

From 1F616EMO Survival Server Wiki

There are no rules nor legal codes specifying the license of in-game constructions.

Proposed code

By working on any constructions in-game, unless otherwise stated clearly around the construction, you agree -

  1. To release your works under [a free license, to be determined];
  2. To be attributed through your in-game username;
  3. That if you have multiple in-game accounts, mentioning one of them is sufficient for attribution; and
  4. That the creators of a certain construction, and the relationship between accounts, are to be deduced by common sense with consideration of technical information (e.g. protection area owner, node placer data, etc.).

If you object to the above statements, you should state it clearly by placing a sign or other display components around the construction. In this way, you may also release your works under different licenses, or add different licenses on top of the above statements. Such a sign can be placed and written by other players under your consent.

Nevertheless, by working on any constructions in-game, you hereby grant to the server owner and their successors a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to host, use, distribute, modify, run, copy, publicly perform or display, translate, and create derivative works of your content for maintenance and any other actions for providing service.

These license terms will be in effect on 2025-XX-XX. For constructions started or finished before that day, these terms shall not apply to those constructions until an in-game mail informing the changes is sent to every contributor of those constructions and 2 months have passed since then, so they would have enough time to object to the changes if they want to.

Candidates include:

Any licenses that require keeping the entire legal code (e.g. MIT, BSD) are not considered, as putting those in in-game displays is not feasible.
